Craft and Sewing Courses

Fort Portal in western Uganda is characterized by high unemployment and limited opportunities. Many young girls have their first child between the ages of 12 and 15, which often leads to a vicious cycle of poverty and lack of prospects. Our sewing and craft courses provide structure, creative engagement, and the opportunity to earn an income. Alongside acquiring practical skills, the focus is on community, mutual encouragement, and empowerment.

Der Verein verfügt derzeit über 8 Nähmaschinen und bietet für Frauen und Mädchen – insbesondere alleinerziehende Mütter – dreimonatige Nähkurse an. Die Lehrkraft und alle Materialien, wie Stoffe, werden aus Spendengeldern finanziert.

Goals

Access to Education and Craft Skills

Teaching practical skills in sewing, cutting, and design.
Complementing the training with additional crafts such as basket weaving to foster creativity and diversity.

Promoting Income Opportunities

Production and sale of handmade products (e.g. bags, children’s clothing, accessories).
Preparing participants for self-employment or future work in the craft and textile sector.

Social Empowerment

Creating a safe learning environment that strengthens community, self-confidence, and mutual support.
Teaching self-management and future planning, with a certificate awarded upon completion.

Sustainability and Local Ownership

Training local instructors to ensure the independent continuation of the project.
Using donations purposefully to fund teachers, materials, and equipment development.
